So one aspect of the rut we’ve been in, is a food rut. Last week we had a dinner-playdate and the lovely other mom cooked the kids a dinner that consisted of: grilled chicken breast, brown rice and a side of green beans. Fussbot ate all of his plus part of the other kid’s dinner. My jaw was ON THE FLOOR.
Chicken hasn’t made an appearance on his tray in sooo many months because it ended up on the floor with a big thbthththththt every. single. time. But since that dinner date, Fussbot has been eating grilled chicken breast like its going out of style. Thinking that he might be open to other foods, I went out and bought some foods that we haven’t had in awhile. The problem is, I’m not sure what to do with them other than steam them. Fussbot is theoretically open to all flavors except tomato and is slightly adverse to things with slimy textures.
Here’s the list, see what you can do.
Asparagus
Cut up fresh mixed squash
Yellow Zucchini
Broccoli
Go Internet, go!

A friend of mine did an asparagus risotto with parmasan, but for the life of me, I don't have the recipe. Her kid (same age as ours) loved it. Mine did not.
Hence the lack o recipe.
When we were visiting my parents Alice ate a whole slew of foods that I told my mom she'd reject. It was funny, and also frustrating. Those wily toddlers - they try to keep us guessing.
Mmmmmm. Asparagus. I like it seared. Just wash it, snap off the ends and heat up some olive oil in a skillet--get it good and hot. Toss the asparagus in and let it sit so that it gets brown a bit, then just toss it around until it's tender. Salt and pepper and you're good to go. Also, if you have some left over, it's awesome in a couscous salad with mushrooms, olives, cucumbers and feta cheese--dress with lemon juice, olive oil and salt and pepper. Chris and I eat this ALL summer long.
The zucchini I did with peppers and onions was really good--the Boy just ate around the peppers and onions, but Fussbot might like them. Man, I hear you with the food rut.
